Zuck reveals upcoming WhatsApp features via unexpected group chat
WhatsApp CEO Will Cathcart and Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg have reportedly released plenty of news regarding upcoming WhatsApp features. However, the news did not come through a press release or a social media post, but through an apparent group chat featuring a person responsible for the leaks.
The person behind the eminent WABetaInfo The website was reportedly added to a WhatsApp group chat including Cathcart and Zuckerberg. And the Facebook co-founder has confirmed a number of upcoming features, including a disappearance mode for any thread (it was previously limited to one-on-one chats), a “view once” feature ( send content to someone and make it disappear after they see it) and support for multiple devices without having an active internet connection on the main device.
Cathcart also shed light on multi-device support, saying that a public beta of the feature will launch in the next two months and that multi-device support reaches a maximum of four devices.
The CEO also referred to WhatsApp for iPad, saying the company “would love to support” the app on Apple tablets, but that it needs to properly implement cross-device capabilities for that to be possible. Either way, we’re happy to see that multi-device support in particular isn’t far off, especially as the likes of Telegram have offered similar functionality for quite some time now.
It all sounds like a pretty incredible turn of events, but WABetaInfo has the best track record when it comes to news about WhatsApp features, combing through the latest updates to figure out what’s to come. We still recommend that you take this with a grain of salt, but this is about as good a third-party source as it gets when it comes to WhatsApp news in general.
