You can finally store your PS5 games on external hard drives
Storage of your PS5 games on external hard drives is finally possible. If you had been looking to make room for new games that you wanted to play. Functionality is part of an update to the PS5 that Sony launched for the month of April, which just launched on the console. Sony has made it possible to move some of your PS5 games from the internal SSD to an external hard drive. If you have one.
But one thing needs to be clarified. You cannot play these games after transferring them to the external drive. This feature is only intended to help you free up internal storage space. This way you will have room for new games that you may want to download.
You can, however, play any of your PS4 games from an external hard drive. As has been available since the very beginning of the PS5 launch.
Transferring PS5 games to and from external drives should be fast
Sony says that while you can’t play the PS5 games that you play on an external drive, you should be able to transfer those games quickly. Or at least, faster than installing games from disc or downloading files from the Internet.
This can be a consolation for anyone who has had storage space issues on the PS5. Although this is actually only a temporary solution for low storage capacity.
The good thing is that it doesn’t really have an impact on the gameplay, as you can still keep your game saves stored in the cloud. You can therefore freely exchange your games stored on the console as you wish. Eventually, Sony will come up with an update that supports internal expandable storage.
The April update also includes a few other features
In addition to the storage feature, Sony’s April update includes other quality of life improvements to watch out for.
For example, it is now possible to search your game library for one of your purchased titles. And to help keep things a bit cleaner and tidier, it’s now possible to hide games in your library. There are also a few feature updates related to voice chat.
Players can now individually adjust the volume of other players. Suppose you are at a party with a few of your friends and one of them is too loud or too quiet. You can now increase or decrease the volume of that single person to an appropriate level.
This update should be available to anyone with a PS5 as long as it is connected to the Internet.
