Storage Service Provider Box Finally Adds Dark Theme To Its App
Storage service provider Box released new update for its mobile applications. The latest update doesn’t bring any new features but gives the app a much needed makeover with a new dark theme. Yes, the Box app is finally getting a dark theme, something just about every other major mobile app is a few years back.
It’s shocking to say the least how long it took for Box developers to introduce a dark theme into their mobile apps. Dark fashion was a trend a few years ago. Everyone rushed to add this feature to their web apps and services. After all, many people preferred a dark mode because it reduced eye strain and allowed comfortable navigation at night.
Not just mobile apps, but even Google added a system-wide dark mode to Android OS starting with Android 10 in 2019. In fact, Samsung did it before even Google, by adding this feature to its Android 9 Pie A user interface in 2018. However, Box, which is one of the most popular storage service providers, never gave it much thought.
One user suggested that the company introduce a dark theme in their app and web version on their Pulse Community Forums about two years ago, in July 2019 (Going through). A moderator responded almost a year later (in May 2020) saying the feature was “not yet slated” for implementation.
Naturally, users weren’t too impressed, and complaints keep piling up. Now, almost in the middle of 2021, Box is finally here with a dark theme for its mobile apps. The company had suggested working on this feature last month and has now released the update.
The Box app finally gets a dark theme
The latest update to the Box app adds a dark theme that follows your system settings. This means that you cannot configure the app to have dark mode when your phone is in light mode. It’s disappointing but still better than not having the support at all. Box app dark mode is supported on devices running Android 10 and above or iOS 13 and above.
Box is a popular online sync and storage tool that integrates with a wide range of applications and services. It offers a whopping 10GB of free storage, which is five times the space of a free Dropbox account. It is very easy to use and now with the support for a dark theme the app also looks modern. You can download the latest version of the Box app from Google play store.
