Simone Biles lands historic double pike from Yurchenko in return from competition
Simone Biles reminded the world on Saturday that she is at her own level above other Olympic gymnasts.
The American superstar became the first woman to land competitively in a jump that included a double pike Yurchenko. She achieved the feat at the GK US Classic in Indianapolis.
As for what the double pike Yurchenko involves, the Associated Press described it this way in his account of the vault:
Biles sprinted down the track, flared on the springboard followed by a backspring on the jump, ending in two backflips with his legs straight and hands seemingly magnetized on his hamstrings.
What made Biles’ decision even more daring and impressive was that she was competing for the first time in more than 18 months (according to the PA) after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the Games to be canceled. 2020 Summer Olympics. She took the overall victory on Saturday.
The 24-year-old Biles will now continue to prepare for this summer’s Tokyo Games, where she is favored to add to the four gold and five total medals (one bronze) she won at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
