Nintendo reportedly look to release a new Switch console later this year with a larger screen than what is currently available.
According to a new report from Bloomberg, Nintendo is finally ready to offer a bigger screen for the Switch. And he wants consumers to have it in their hands before the end of the year. The Nintendo Switch has always been one of the most popular gaming consoles since its release. Leading up to many themed Switch consoles, like the Super Mario Red and blue edition released in February.
Although it has not been without some drawbacks. One of those, for some at least, has been the screen size. While that’s not a problem when connected to the TV via the docking station, using it in portable mode with the Joy-Con controllers on the sides limits you to just 6.2 inches of space.
The new Nintendo Switch will ship with a larger 7-inch screen this year
If 6.2 inches isn’t enough for you, Nintendo is hoping 7 inches is the way to go. Rumor has it that Nintendo’s plans are to release the new Switch with a 7-inch screen later this year.
In addition, the new display will be an OLED panel from Samsung. Unlike the current panel which is an LCD screen. This means the new Switch should have more vivid colors and better overall picture quality. Although the panel is still in 720p resolution. Thus, the image will not necessarily be sharper than before.
In addition to the new technology and panel size, the new switch would also support higher resolution when docked. Go from current 1080p to 4K. You will still need a 4K TV of course.
Nintendo wants him ready for the holidays
While it’s still time for Nintendo to change the release window, it looks like before the holidays, that’s the time period Nintendo is aiming for here.
The report says Nintendo wants to release the new version of the console in time for holiday shoppers. Make it easily accessible as a gift, when many people are considering purchasing consoles. And if things continue as they did last year in terms of sales, Nintendo will be on the verge of another successful console launch.
There is no word yet on the price or exact availability dates. But with a slightly larger screen and an OLED panel, there is still a possibility that it won’t be the same price as the current Switch.
