Nazem Kadri suspension: How many games will the Avalanche striker miss?
On Friday, the NHL suspended Avalanche forward Nazem Kadri for eight games for his free kick against Blues defenseman Justin Faulk.
Kadri will miss the remainder of his team’s first-round Stanley Cup playoff series starting in Game 3 Friday night, and then the second-round games if Colorado advances.
The league’s player safety department said in announcing Kadri’s suspension that Kadri could have avoided making Faulk’s head the main point of contact. Kadri received a match penalty for his third period hit in the second game on Wednesday. Faulk suffered an upper body injury that forced him to quit this game and then miss Game 3.
The league also noted Kadri’s suspension history as the basis for the length of the ban. In 2019, then-Maple Leafs Kadri was suspended for five playoff games when he cross-checked the Bruins’ Jake DeBrusk in the face in Game 2 of Round 1.
“In short, this is a high and forceful head failure of an opponent who caused injury and was delivered by a player with a substantial disciplinary record,” the DOPS said.
The Blues called for Kadri’s suspension after game two, saying the veteran “can’t control himself”.
