Huawei shows developers how to easily turn GMS apps into HMS apps
Huawei just showed developers how they can easily turn GMS applications into HMS applications. As most of you know, Huawei is no longer allowed to use Google services and therefore cannot offer the Play Store to its users. They can use AppGallery, Huawei’s own store.
This created problems for many users because they couldn’t install the apps they wanted. Huawei has worked long and hard on a solution, and there are several. Well, this new one makes things even simpler, even though it doesn’t come directly from Huawei.
One of HuaweiBluesource’s European partner has released a solution that adapts GMS to HMS applications. This was done specifically for a leading bank in Austria, the Raiffeisen Bank. The solution has become very popular and is now open-source. Therefore, it can be used by anyone. Huawei claims that more than 60 brands have already used it.
“Choice SDK” makes it easy to transform Google GMS applications into Huawei HMS applications
This solution is called “Choice of SDKAnd it’s easy for vendors to turn their existing applications based on the GMS and Firebase frameworks into usable HMS applications.
This will save developers not only the time, but also the cost of converting applications to HMS compatible applications. Huawei hopes this will boost its HMS ecosystem even more.
Speaking of which, AppGallery has grown tremendously since its launch. It has become the third largest application market in the world with 530 million monthly active users (MAU). It grew in Europe by 61.5% year-on-year, reaching more than 42 million users.
There are 2.3 million registered developers on AppGallery
The platform has also seen an increase when it comes to registered developers, these numbers have risen to 2.3 million. This means that they are 77% higher than they were last year. We’re looking at 300,000 developers outside of China.
It remains to be seen how useful ‘Choice SDK’ will be and how many companies will use it. There are still tons of Huawei devices out there, and its AppGallery is growing extremely quickly. It’s pretty appealing to developers, and it could give them a very easy way to take advantage of the ecosystem.
