The mobile version of Genshin impact of miHoYo generated approximately $ 874 million in the first five months of its official launch on September 28, 2020, now a good start for its multiplatform strategy, Sensor Tower Store intelligence estimates show.
The title was a huge global hit, ranking the third most revenue-generating mobile games globally on the App Store and Google Play in the period following its launch. It is behind Honor of kings and PUBG Mobile of Tencent, both of which have grossed over $ 1 billion in the past five months, and above blockbusters Pokémon GO of Niantic and Roblox of Roblox Corporation. This makes Genshin Impact the highest grossing mobile RPG in the world, and so far it has averaged around $ 175 million in spend per month for gamers. The game is also available on other platforms including PC and PlayStation 4.
China continues to rank as the top revenue-generating country for the title, with Genshin Impact raising around $ 253 million on the local App Store to date, accounting for 29% of global gamer spending. Outside of China, the game grossed just over $ 620 million, or 71% of all revenue. Japan ranks # 2 for gamer spending globally, racking up $ 237 million, or about 27% of all revenue, while the United States is # 3, with about $ 162 million, or 18.5% of the total.
To date, the App Store accounts for the majority of spending by global gamers, contributing around $ 521 million, or nearly 60% of total revenue. Google Play, meanwhile, accounts for $ 352 million, or about 40%.
Although October 2020 remains Genshin Impact’s best revenue month, when it generated nearly $ 234 million, it has held steady at over $ 150 million in the past three months, making it consistently one of the most profitable mobile titles in the world. Other publishers will take note, and it’s likely we’ll start to see other titles developed in the same vein as Genshin Impact, potentially ushering in a new era of technologically advanced cross-platform mobile gaming.
