Did the Mavericks’ Luka Doncic snub Paul George’s jersey exchange offer?
The Clippers exorcised their playoff demons on Sunday, defeating the Mavericks 126-111 in Game 7 of their first-round series and qualifying to face the Jazz in the Western Conference semifinals.
Los Angeles might have won Sunday’s game, but Paul George might have taken an L again – after the final bell sounded. Cameras caught him and Dallas’ Luka Doncic talking after the game was over. It felt like a pretty good moment where George was praising Doncic’s excellent play in a losing effort; nothing strange about it at all.
Here’s where things got weird: George took off his jersey as the two spoke, as if he wanted to offer it in a jersey swap. If that’s what he was trying to do, then it seemed like Doncic had pushed him away:
After the video gained traction online, Doncic was asked about the timing during his post-match press conference. The Mavs star said he ended up swapping jerseys with George, but instead did so privately in the locker room.
Unfortunately for Doncic, only George (22 points, 10 assists) will have the chance to put on his jersey this year.
Doncic was fantastic in Game 7, with a record 46 points to go with seven rebounds and 14 assists. Oddly, this wasn’t the first time he was part of a potentially memorable moment: the first one arrived in the first quarter, when he was on his back and gave the cameras a boost:
Doncic scored 19 points during the quarter while helping the Mavericks take a three-point lead after 12 minutes. It was the only period Dallas was leading in the game.
