About 2 in 5 American adults are now fully vaccinated against Covid-19, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as the rate of new coronavirus infections continues to decline.

The United States averages 2.4 million reported vaccinations per day over the past week, up from a peak of 3.4 million daily vaccines on April 13.

The rate of new infections is also falling. The country reports an average of 49,000 cases a day, according to data from Johns Hopkins University, up from more than 70,000 just a few weeks ago.

American vaccines administered

About 2.1 million vaccines were reported on Sunday, bringing the seven-day average to 2.4 million per day.

Meeting the demand for gunfire is no longer the main challenge in many places as states face access to vaccines and obstacles to reluctance in their populations. According to a CNBC analysis of CDC data, seventeen states reported a decrease in injections given for three consecutive weeks or more.

United States share of vaccinated population

Almost 45% of Americans have received at least one dose of a vaccine and 32% are fully vaccinated.

Among people aged 18 and over, 56% are at least partially vaccinated and 40% are fully vaccinated.

“We’re not going to get everyone vaccinated,” former Food and Drug Administration commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb told CNBC’s “Squawk Box” on Monday.

“If we can get two-thirds of the population immunized or a little better than that, that will be a pretty good level of protection,” he said.

Covid cases in the United States

The rate of new infections has fallen to the lowest level in months, according to data from Hopkins. Over the weekend, the seven-day average of daily new cases in the United States fell below 50,000 for the first time since October.

New daily cases have fallen 5% or more in 22 states and the District of Columbia over the past week. New hospital admissions of Covid patients are also in decline, CDC data shows.

Elsewhere, Covid epidemics are reaching new heights. India accounts for one in three new cases of coronavirus worldwide, according to the World Health Organization, with nearly 7 million cases reported in April.

Covid Deaths in the United States

The United States reports an average of 683 Covid deaths per day, according to data from Hopkins.
