Consumers have spent a lot of money on Android and iOS applications in the first quarter of 2021. This information comes from App Annie, a company that shared its analysis in a new report.
Android and iOS spent a ton of money on apps in Q1 2021
Consumer spending on Android and iOS applications in fact, a 40 percent jump in the first quarter of this year. They spent a record total of $ 32 billion on apps, crushing all previous numbers.
The vast majority of that number went to iOS apps, $ 21 billion, to be exact. Android users spend $ 11 billion on apps during the same period. Compared to Q1 2020, that’s a huge boost, as consumers spent $ 23 billion on apps at the time.
COVID-19 is of course considered to be the main reason behind such growth. People are still stuck in their homes or just trying not to get out too much because of the pandemic. So that makes sense.
The number of cross-platform downloads increased by 10%
The number of downloads between the two platforms increased by 10% during the first quarter of 2021. To put that in numbers, we recorded 31 billion downloads during this period.
Gamers spent $ 9 billion in the Google Play Store in the first quarter of 2021. This represents a 35% increase year-over-year (year over year). IOS users, on the other hand, spent 30% more on an annual basis – that is, they spent $ 13 billion in the first quarter of 2021.
The biggest increase in revenue, when it comes to app categories, was seen in the Games, Social Networking and Entertainment categories, at least when it came to Android. IOS users were most interested in the Games, Photo & Video, and Entertainment categories.
TikTok was the most popular app, as expected
Now for the most popular apps. The most downloaded app during this time, on both platforms, was TikTok. It doesn’t surprise anyone at this point, as TikTok has been incredibly popular for quite some time now.
TikTok is followed by Facebook, Instagram, Telegram, and WhatsApp. You can check out the rest of the list in the image below this paragraph.
Consumers spent the most on YouTube, and TikTok is second on this list. Tinder follows, with Disney + and Tencent Video. The rest of the list is included below.
The top five apps, for monthly active users, remain unchanged. The first four apps are from Facebook, which is great news for the company. Facebook leads the pack, followed by WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Instagram. Amazon is fifth. The rest of the list is below.
Now, when it comes to games, Join Clash 3D was the most downloaded app, followed by Among Us! And DOP 2: delete part. Consumers spent the most on ROBLOX, Genshin Impact and Coin Master. As for the monthly active users on games, among us! leads the pack, followed by PUBG MOBILE and Candy Crush Saga. You can check out the full listings below.
