Celtics Coach Search: Brad Stevens To Interview Chauncey Billups, Other NBA Assistants For A Job

The Celtics are taking steps to look outside the organization for their next head coach.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Wednesday that Boston president and former coach Brad Stevens has started receiving permission from a number of NBA teams to interview assistant coaches to fill the vacant position.

Wojnarowski reported that Chauncey Billups of the Clippers, Jamahi Mosley of the Mavericks, Ime Udoka of the Nets and Darvin Ham and Charless Lee of the Bucks were among the assistants sought for interviews.

Wojnarowski also reported that Stevens has interviewed some of his former assistants before, naming Jay Larranaga, Jerome Allen, Scott Morrison and Joe Mazzulla.

Stevens was promoted to president of the Celtics June 2 after Danny Ainge resigned. Stevens was Boston’s head coach for the past eight seasons and has the fourth most wins in franchise history with 318.

Stevens and the Celtics have been linked with several other big names for the vacancy. A previous report from Yahoo! Chris Haynes from sports said Lakers assistant Jason Kidd and former Hawks coach Lloyd Pierce are also expected to be candidates. Duke’s women’s basketball head coach Kara Lawson was flagged as “candidate of choice” For the job.
