Asana adds video messaging feature in partnership with Vimeo
The Asana work management platform announced a suite of new features to help employees during the hybrid work time. According to the company, 80% of employees keep their inbox and their communication applications open when working, most of them feeling pressured to multitask. This results in lower efficiency and people often miss critical deadlines or messages. It now promises improved productivity and fewer distractions at work with the new features.
“We’ve designed a suite of new offerings specifically designed to align your focus with your intention. With integrations with our new Asana partners, Vimeo and Clockwise, we take away the distractions and make it easier to do the work that requires your full attention ”, mentionned Alex Hood, Product Manager, Asana.
Asana adds video messaging functionality
The most notable new feature of Asana is an asynchronous video messaging feature. Developed in partnership with the Vimeo video hosting platform, this tool eliminates the need for more video meetings while providing the benefits of face-to-face communication. Employees can record videos of themselves and / or their Asana displays and share them with co-workers or bosses. This way, they will be able to better convey the emotion and context of the work in progress, without the “extra meeting fee”.
“If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video is worth a thousand pictures,” Hood said.
The platform also automatically transcribes your speech. Your colleagues can find and share these audio transcripts to make the job easier. The video messaging feature will be rolled out to all Asana customers in the coming weeks.
“Asana has stepped up its delivery of functionality based on how employees want and expect to work. Their new asynchronous video messaging video chats will be a game-changer for some teams, ”said Wayne Kurtzman, IDC’s research director for Communities and Collaboration.
Smart tasks, smart calendar assistant, etc.
In addition to the new video messaging feature, Asana has also “supercharged” My Tasks with the latest update. The company claims to have made the feature smarter so that it can automatically organize your tasks. Users can organize their work into “Kanban, List and Calendar versions of their personal tasks”.
With automation, the app will organize them based on the due date. If your task depends on the work of a teammate, they will let you know as soon as they have completed their part of the work. Asana says the change is “inspired by productivity best practices for high performance teams.”
With the latest update, Asana also integrates with Clockwise, the popular smart calendar assistant. It allows you to schedule tasks directly from the app. All you have to do is enter how long it takes to complete the task and when you want to work. Clockwise will then automatically reserve time on your calendar so you don’t miss the deadline. The scheduled task calendar event can also be accessed in Google Calendar.
Finally, Asana also launched a desktop app for Windows and Mac. The company claims that the new app offers all the functionality of the web version and additionally allows employees to focus on the task at hand by blocking unwanted notification sounds.
