Aaron Rodgers trades rumors: Raiders ‘hiding’ Packers quarterback
Just trade, baby.
Aaron Rodgers is said to have played his latest snap with the Packers amid the turmoil between him and the Green Bay front office, with business rumors bubbling up on day one of the 2021 NFL Draft.
While the original reports suggested Rodgers would be happy with a trade with one of three teams – the Broncos, 49ers and Raiders – ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that the interest is mutual (via Bleacher Report):
He would also be intrigued by the Raiders, so they must be on this list. They are happy with Derek Carr; nothing is happening at the moment, and they could very well extend Derek Carr soon. But the Raiders are looking at every quarterback situation. … They looked at old free agents or trading options. So Jon Gruden is sort of still in hiding. You cannot rule them out.
After selecting No.3 Trey Lance overall, the 49ers would apparently be left out of the Rodgers draw, while the Broncos fielding both Teddy Bridgewater and Drew Lock would likely not prevent a trade.
The Raiders make a compelling landing point for Rodgers, with a decent offensive support cast with Josh Jacobs, Darren Waller and Henry Ruggs, but comparing that to the Packers’ offensive situation is essentially a washout.
Rodgers reportedly wants Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst fired, while the team have been steadfast in their support of not trading the disgruntled quarterback.
With the NFL Draft come and go, any compensation for Rodgers would include players and future picks, making them some interesting business scenarios.
For now, however, Rodgers is still a Packer. That could still change in the coming months.
